Overview

The 21st century is being called the Century of Biotechnology, a time when biotechnology enters every field from basic research to industry.

Three-dimensional structures of proteins, which can be determined at high resolution only by NMR spectroscopy or X-ray crystallography, are used in a variety of fields, including medicine, pharmacy, and bioengineering. NMR spectroscopy is of particular interest because it can determine structures of proteins that resist crystallization and to carry out high-throughput screening to identify small molecule binding sites in proteins for drug design.

SAIL (Stereo-Array Isotope Labeling) is an ingenious new method for protein NMR developed by the Kainosho Laboratory of Tokyo Metropolitan University under the Program for Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST). The SAIL method makes it possible for researchers to determine protein structures quickly and accurately. SAIL also permit NMR investigations of proteins that are much lager than ones that otherwise could be considered. SAIL Technologies Inc. aims to be a leading company in the post-genomic era by enabling the SAIL method to become the next-generation, global-standard approach to NMR-based drug discovery and development, structural genomics, and functional genomics.
